Tim Caradine
– 3rd VP, Texas DPS, Captain
Joined the Department in 1995; served as a Highway Patrol Trooper in Red River County and Hunt County. Promoted to Highway Patrol Sergeant in 2002 serving in Lamar County and Kaufman County. He attained the rank of Lieutenant in 2008 and served briefly in Harris County before transferring to the North Texas Region. As a Highway Patrol Lieutenant, he was the commanding officer of the Troopers assigned to the Dallas North Tollway or North Texas Tollway Authority Detail(NTTA). While serving in this capacity, he was very instrumental in forging great DPS relations in the North Texas Region with our local law enforcement partners as well as other community and business owners. He became the Service Commander of the Capitol Detail, 7A, Capitol Region in March 2019.
While under DPS, Captain Caradine has developed extensive subject matter knowledge in emergency management. He is a former Rapid Response Task Force Commander under former TDEM Commander Jack Colley. As a Field Force Operations Instructor, he has instructed DPS and outside agencies in mobile field force and attained frontline experience commanding mobile field force platoons during protests. Captain Caradine is also an ALERRT Level 1 Instructor who actively assists during active shooter training of DPS recruits in the DPS Academy. Captain Caradine is a graduate of the FBI National Academy, Session 243, for law enforcement executives and has attained the FBILEEDA Trilogy for training.
Prior to joining the Department, Captain Caradine was a former member of the United States Army who served proudly in Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm in the early 1990’s. Upon completing his active duty enlistment, he joined the Mississippi National Guard and attended Jackson State University. Captain Caradine attained a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice in 1995.
Captain Caradine transferred from the Capitol Region to the North Texas Region, Dallas District, in November 2024. As the Dallas District, 1A, Service Commander, Captain Caradine supervises HP Troopers in seven(7) North Texas counties while working with local and Federal partners to address the threats impacting the North Texas Region.
