Executive Board

Craig Cummings has over 26 years of law enforcement experience, more than 22 of which with the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) and four years with the Houston Police Department, where his law enforcement career began in 1999.

In his final assignment with DPS, Cummings managed the Southeast Texas Regional Media and Communications Office. He supervised six sergeants who—on average—collectively conducted hundreds of speaking engagements a year, addressing over 1,000 media inquiries, writing more than 800 distributed press releases to media outlets, and conducting nearly 300 media interviews annually. Additionally, he and his team grew the Regional social media platforms from startup platforms that now reach over six million people annually.

He has attended several professional public relations (PR) training courses and seminars inside and outside Texas, improving his knowledge as a PR professional and teaching him current best practices that enhance a law enforcement agency’s brand. He has worked on critical incidents such as the Santa Fe school shooting, Hurricane Harvey, a military helicopter crash in Galveston Bay, and the Audrii Cunningham kidnapping and murder in Polk County. Cummings has conducted interviews about law enforcement operations with local and national news outlets including CNN, Fox News, the Weather Channel, and equivalent media outlets in Canada and Germany.

Cummings serves as an executive board member of the FBI National Academy Associates of Texas and the Texas Police Association. He is a former member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police serving on their Public Information Officer section.

He holds a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice administration, a master’s degree in public administration with a specialization in crisis management, and is a graduate of the 275th Session of the FBI National Academy.
